I would venture to say that all victims of romance scams never question, prove, or disprove the information a potential online date has supplied. As sad as it sounds, one must approach online and app dating like war. Sometimes, you will come across the enemy, and they will do everything possible to destroy your financial security. Therefore, put your antenna up and know who you are chatting with digitally.
There are two key red flags: the person works overseas, and they give you an excuse as to why they cannot have a video call with you. If this sounds familiar, I can guarantee you are involved with a romance scammer. The other question is, why would you get involved with someone you cannot speak with on video? That is dating a ghost.
I have seen and worked on some serious disasters in the love scam world. Be kind to yourself, and do not become a victim. The action must come from you, and you must demand more from a potential date. Do not let them control the situation. Expect a video call in 24 hours, and if they cannot do that for you, move on to the next.
No one looking for love online expects to be victimized. Yet, it happens to thousands of people worldwide. The problem begins on dating apps or social sites because victims do not screen their potential romantic partners. Profiles are accepted for face value, and there is minimal questioning of a person's identity.
The best way to avoid the wrong person while online dating is to learn how to identify bogus dating profiles. The Romance Detective is quick that teaches how to date safely. Available on Amazon.
Do not become a victim.
