A political blackmailer may threaten to contact journalists, bloggers, political opponents, or activist groups.
They may claim everything will become public by morning.
They may create a deadline:
Pay now.
Resign.
Change your position.
Give me information.
Do what I say or I send everything.
Urgency is part of the pressure.
The blackmailer wants the victim reacting before anyone has time to understand the threat.
My first objective is to slow the situation down.
Time allows me to identify the blackmailer’s access, determine what they possess, and understand whether they can reach the people they are threatening to contact.

Political Blackmail Involving an Affair
An affair can become political leverage when someone threatens to contact a spouse, campaign, party official, donor, employer, or journalist.
The threat may come from:
- A former affair partner
- Someone connected to the affair partner
- A person who discovered messages
- An online contact using a false identity
- A professional blackmailer who found the relationship
Paying may appear to offer a private escape.
But payment does not remove the messages, photographs, or information.
It may show the blackmailer that the threat works.

A political figure, candidate, staff member, or government professional may use Grindr privately.
The danger begins when someone connects the profile to a real identity.

Do Not Allow the Blackmailer to Identify Your Greatest Fear
A blackmailer studies reactions.
If mentioning a spouse creates panic, they will keep mentioning the spouse.
If threatening the media produces an immediate response, the media becomes part of every demand.
If a particular donor, party official, or employer matters most, do not confirm it for the blackmailer.
Desperate explanations can provide information the person did not already possess.
The threat must be assessed calmly.
What do they have?
Who can they reach?
What have they already done?
What are they trying to make you do?
Those answers shape the response.
