The fake practitioner gets the victim to participate in a ceremony.
They may have them make a video where they are chanting, shaking a feather, sitting around candles, or performing some other strange ritual.
If it is a love spell, they may have the victim chant the person’s name or hold their photograph.
These can be very embarrassing videos that do not shine well upon a person.
At first, the victim believes the video is part of the ceremony.
Then they realize it was created for another reason.
Leverage.

Sometimes the victim realizes they have been scammed and refuses to send more money.
That is when the scam turns into blackmail.
The fake practitioner threatens to send it to the person in the photograph.
Your family.
Your employer.
Your social media connections.
Now you are not paying for magic.
You are paying because you are terrified of exposure.
The Black Cloud Scam
For other victims, the scam goes deeper because they become more emotionally vulnerable.
The practitioner claims there is a black cloud hanging over them.
A curse.
Bad energy.
Something terrible is supposedly going to happen unless another ceremony is performed.
Of course, that ceremony costs more money.
Then another problem appears.
Another ceremony.
Another payment.
It goes on and on.
